Find a licensed plumber in Rockland County

Search for plumbers near your town, then check the license before any work starts. It takes a few minutes and costs nothing.

Make a short list of two or three. For anything that is not an emergency, get more than one estimate.

Step 2: check the license

In Rockland County, plumbers are licensed by the county. A legitimate plumber will give you a license number without hesitation, and it usually appears on their truck, their estimate and their website.

Step 3: ask the right questions

  1. Are you licensed in Rockland County, and what is the number?
  2. Are you insured? Ask for proof of liability insurance, and of workers' compensation if they have employees.
  3. Will this job need a permit, and who obtains it? Water heaters, gas work and new plumbing usually do. The plumber normally handles the permit with your town's building department.
  4. Is this a fixed price or an estimate? Ask what could make it go up, and ask to be called before it does.
  5. What is the charge for coming out, and is it taken off the bill if you go ahead?
  6. What guarantee do you give on the parts and on the work?

Who licenses plumbers in Rockland County?

Rockland County does, not New York State. Licenses are issued through the county's Office of Consumer Protection, on the recommendation of the county's board of plumbing, heating and cooling examiners.
